What to know before exporting heading 0408

Heading 0408 is for egg products without the shell and for yolks. Eggs in their shell are classified in a different heading, 0407. Confirm which one your product belongs to before quoting or issuing a commercial invoice.

The heading has four subheadings. They separate products mainly by whether they are dried or in another form, and by whether they are yolks or other egg products. The subheading, not the heading, determines the duty rate and often the import conditions. The official tariff of the destination states the full code your goods must carry.

The importing markets in the table are mostly in the EU. Of the fifteen listed, twelve are EU members and three are not: the United Kingdom, Japan and Switzerland. The figures are imports declared by each country from the world, so they show where demand is, not how much of it Spanish suppliers hold.

For a company exporting from Spain to another EU country, no customs duty applies, because the goods move within the single market. Products of animal origin are still subject to sanitary and veterinary rules. Check them with the competent Spanish authorities and with your buyer before the first shipment.

For the United Kingdom, Japan and Switzerland, the duty depends on the subheading and on the agreement in force between the EU and the destination. It is consulted by code on Access2Markets.
